Accenture has eliminated 11,000 positions in just three months as part of an $865 million restructuring plan focused on artificial intelligence. The consulting giant's headcount dropped from 791,000 to 779,000 by August 2025, with CEO Julie Sweet acknowledging that reskilling efforts can't keep pace with AI's rapid adoption.

The move reflects broader industry turbulence as tech firms worldwide shed nearly 90,000 jobs in 2025. Major players including TCS, Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon are similarly reshaping their workforces to prioritize AI capabilities. Severance costs have already reached hundreds of millions for Accenture, with further reductions likely.

This workforce transformation underscores AI's disruptive impact across global corporations. While companies emphasize retraining programs, the speed of technological change is leaving thousands of traditional tech roles obsolete. The consulting sector's pivot mirrors trends seen in cryptocurrency and blockchain firms adapting to automation.
